Shri Shri Shri
Shivabalayogi Maharaj
|
Shri
Shri Shri Shivabalayogi Maharaj was born on January
24th 1935, into a family of weavers in a small
village in South India and was named Sathyaraju
by his parents.
At
age fourteen years he had a spiritual experience
in which Shiva, whom some call the Holy Spirit,
appeared in the form of a handsome ascetic with
long matted hair. Shiva touched Sathyaraju on
the forehead and the boy immediately passed into
Samadhi
(God consciousness). In this way did the Balayogi
(Boy yogi) begin twelve years of tapas, a spiritual
austerity and purification to attain God realization.
He meditated in Samadhi for twenty-three hours
every day for eight years, returning to ordinary
consciousness at midnight long enough to wash
himself and perhaps drink a cup of milk. In these
eight years he mastered meditation in all four
cardinal directions: East, North, West and South.
Then he meditated twelve hours every day for another
four years. Upon attaining God realization, he
was instructed to use the powers he attained through
tapas (tapas shakti or the transforming power
of the Divine through meditation) to comfort the
grieving, heal the sick and bring enlightenment
to those who seek God.
Shivabalayogi
left his physical body on April 2, 1994. Since
then, he continues to give darshan and blessings
in the same ways he had over the three previous
decades: through bhava (astral presence) Samadhi.
He is ever present in meditation, guiding the
concentration and giving silent instruction.

Glossary
of
Terms

|
Samadhi
can be translated as God
consciousness or enlightenment. It is an advanced
state of spiritual consciousness in which there
is no awareness of time or one's physical body
or ordinary surroundings. Shri Swamiji explains
that samadhi cannot be described; it must be experienced.
He assures us that if we apply ourselves and meditate
an hour each day, he will ensure that we attain
samadhi in this lifetime.
Vibhuti
means holy ash. People come to Shivabalyogi with
requests for all sorts of help, whether curing
diseases or mental disorders, solving relationship
problems, helping with work or other practical
problems, or giving spiritual guidance and development.
His Holiness blesses vibhuti which, if used as
directed along with meditation, will bestow the
requested help in course of time. The miracles
he has worked through vibhuti are countless.
Dhyan
or dhyana is the Sanskrit word for
meditation. It is meditation in which the concentration
is unbroken by thoughts and is focused on a single
point.
